Drip Tape Quality Tests
Quality tests for irrigation tape
A range of tests is normally carried out on drip tape to guarantee its quality and optimal performance. The tests performed on drip tape, and the reason for each, are listed below.
1. Leakage test:
- Purpose: This test checks the tape for any leak or crack. The tape must be completely leak-free so that water reaches the plants evenly and water losses are reduced.
2. Burst and seepage test (Seepage Test):
- Purpose: This test checks whether the tape bursts under different water-pressure conditions. It ensures that the tape can withstand water pressure.
3. Pressure measurement test (Pressure Measurement Test):

- Purpose: This test measures the water pressure inside the tape and confirms that it meets pressure standards. The water pressure must stay within defined limits for optimal performance.
4. Sealing test:
- Purpose: This test checks the tightness of joints and welds in the tape. Any leak at these points can cause water losses.
5. Heat resistance test:
- Purpose: Given varying irrigation conditions and the effect of ambient temperature, the tape must resist heat. The test is carried out by pressurizing the tape at different temperatures.
6. UV resistance test:
- Purpose: UV light can shorten the service life of the tape. This test confirms that the tape resists UV radiation.
7. Chemical resistance test:
- Purpose: The tape must resist the various chemicals it meets in the field. This test evaluates its resistance to different chemicals.
These tests give farmers confidence in the long-term performance and quality of the tape.
